Beautiful colors....sea-inspired stamps....
Here's a little taste of how my weekend will be spent. The deadline for the fundraising mural at my children's school was Friday. The Brandon School community really pulled together and supported this project which will (eventually) beautify the school and add much needed funds to support our specialists program.
But as a result, I have over 50 tiles to stamp, paint and personalize before Monday. Eeek!

But this hasn't stopped me from reading. I just read The Host by Stephenie Meyer. Not so great. Cool concept--aliens taking over human bodies--but unfortunately, Meyer didn't pull it off. Too bad.

So to rejuvenate my "must-read" stack, I popped down to my local bookstore and picked up a copy of Evolution, Me and Other Freaks of Nature by Robin Brande. Check out the author interview by Hip Writer Mama. Can't wait to dive in and read this well received novel.

Now an update on my Summer Writing Program. Spent three mornings working on my YA. Got in about 9 hours. Yeah! Worked on the sequencing of some chapters, spent some time working through the Goal/Motivation/Conflict for my protagonist (based on my critique groups recommendations...they rock!) and basically just wrote. So fun.

  1. The Host not so good, huh? I thought I'd pick this one up on audio.
And I also need to get Evolution.
Congrats on the 9 hours of writing time! Amazing!

  2. The tiles are beautiful! What type of paint do you use to stamp, paint and personalize? And do you have to put a clear coat on top of it? Absolutely beautiful!

I hope you enjoy Evolution. And awesome about the writing! Can't wait to find out what happens next!

  3. Thanks, PJ. Yeah, The Host was disappointing to me. Really needed some editing if you ask me.

    Vivian,
The paint is a ceramic underglaze. It has to be fired once painted then glazed with a cone 6 glaze. Lots of work! Glad it's fun.
I realize I'm up for submitting tomorrow. Yikes!

  4. Patty,

Good luck with all your projects. The tiles are beautiful:) The school is so lucky to have such a dedicated art teacher! You rock. Good for you to get a little BIC time in the midst of all this. I love your Summer Writing Program:) I've loved my reading lately. I just read a book called "How It's Done" by Christine Kole Maclean and it was riveting. AND not a witch or dragon or alien! A YA Contemporary. It was like a train wreck you just couldn't take your eyes off.
